Friday 14 October
A ‘beary nice’ nice morning in the Preschool with an evident air of excitement because ‘today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic’! The children enjoyed a delightful picnic lunch outdoors today in which we shared some popular vegemite and cheese sandwiches with our cuddly friends. It was a real treat having the opportunity to bring in our favoured toys from home and to learn a little more about our Preschool peers and their fluffy friends. The children delighted in talking to their friends about their toys and in providing an informative tale of their toys lives e.g. where they came from, how long they have been a part of their family, what they like to do with their Teddy Bear friends etc. We integrated some language and literacy and math related learning into our calendar event today too. The children worked collaboratively to place their Teddy Bears into correct size order from largest to smallest! Jerome’s ‘Big Ted’ was certainly the largest Teddy in our extensive collection. To extend on our math learning we polled and graphed which of our Teddy Bear names was the most popular…it probably comes as no great surprise that ‘Teddy’, ‘Ted’ and ‘Teddy Bear’ were amongst the most common! From a language and literacy perspective we spent time reading some lovely Teddy Bear inspired texts and practising our comprehension skills. We even went as far to develop our own story in which the children were encouraged to build on the ideas of their peers and continue the story in a fluid manner.
