Koomurri Performers

Friday 20 July
This morning the Pre-school and Kindy were fortunate to have a visit from the Koomurri performers. The children were engrossed in the presentation and were keen to know more about Aboriginal Culture. We were very interested to note that there are over 600 hundred ways to say hello in various Aboriginal dialects! The children engaged in some wonderful games which involved active listening and also were afforded the opportunity to practise their Didgeridoo skills in one of the many patterned instruments which were kindly brought in for us to learn more about Aboriginal culture. The children were also provided opportunity to explore the importance of Aboriginal art in storytelling and as a more tangible means by which to record important stories and events. The children took part in a collaborative artwork experience and were treated to some face painting using the earthy tones so often incorporated within Aboriginal art.
